Install Printers on PLNU Mac Computers

ITS automates the install of departmental printers on University owned and managed computers, but there are times when an additional printer must be installed.  Installing PLNU network printers onto PLNU computers is done in a specific way that is unlike installing a personal, home, or locally connected printer.  This article shows how to do so, and how to choose a default printer.

If prompted for administrative credentials when installing a printer that is directly connected to your computer via USB or another cable, please call the Solution Center at 619-849-2222.

Support for Macs

PLNU print queues are installed on Macs using a program called Self Service, and come bundled by department. Print jobs will only print if connected to a PLNU campus network, or if connected to VPN from off campus.

Installation Steps
  1. Press +'Spacebar' to bring up spotlight search
  2. Type Self Service
  3. Double-click the Self Service icon
  4. Click Printers on the left
  5. Click the Install button under the desired printer's department
(Note: This install all printers from the department, individual printers cannot be installed with this method)
  6. Your desired printer should now be available as an option when printing

NOTE:  Some apps may need to be quit before they can use newly installed printers

Choosing Default Printer
  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Click Printers & Scanners
  3. On the bottom right: Click the field next to Default printer: and select a printer
(Note: Some apps may not be programmed to use the default printer.)
