PLNU Classroom Podium Connection Guide

Step 1: DisplayLink Software (Required)

The USB-C connection is to a docking station that requires DisplayLink software to be installed. If you're using a PLNU provided laptop this software likely is already installed or can be downloaded and installed from URL below. For personal laptops, you will be required to install this software in order for your laptop to see and detect all the devices and display video.

Open a browser and go to https://www.displaylink.com/downloads (do not install beta versions of DisplayLink)

For Apple OS users you will need to enable DisplayLink Manager under Screen Recording in order to finish set up. Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy Tab > Screen Recording > and enable DisplayLink Manager

Step 2: Get connected to network, power, projector, Zoom camera, microphone and USB Share.

From the cable cubby at the top of the podium, connect your laptop to the USB-C cable.

  1. USB-C: Connect USB-C cable to laptop (recommended)
  2. USB-A adapter: Use only if no USB-C port is on your laptop. Connect USB-C to its USB-A adapter and then connect the USB-A to your laptop.  USB-A connection will not provide laptop power or pass video to projector.
  3. HDMI adapter: If your laptop doesn’t have a USB-C connect but only HDMI. You will need a female USB-C to HDMI male adapter. This will only allow for display of video, all other USB devices for Zoom, audio and power normally available when connected to USB-C will not be available.

Step 3: Verify your laptop audio settings for Windows OS

For a Windows laptop, click on the speaker icon in the lower right corner. The selected playback device must be “Dell USB Audio”.  Your laptop volume settings will now, exclusively, be controlled via the volume control on your laptop. The volume bar on the podium control panel will not affect computer volume. This means you can now play video with volume. See figures below for help.
