New OneLogin Account Setup

Summary

This article guides new students, faculty, staff, and 3rd parties through the initial setup of their new PLNU OneLogin account. It covers finding their username, setting a password, and configuring multi-factor authentication (MFA).

Body

This guide will help you sign into your PLNU OneLogin account for the first time. You will set your initial password and select your 2-step verification method (also known as a "security factor").

Step 1: Find the OneLogin Invitation Email

  • Sent to your personal (non-PLNU) email address from the admissions or hiring process

  • Subject line: "Welcome to Point Loma Nazarene University, [Your Name]!"

  • Body provides your assigned username and a link to set your first password

  • If needing to search for this email, try the term "onelogin" with no spaces

Step 2: Create Your OneLogin Password

Click the password setup link provided in the OneLogin invitation email referenced in Step 1.  The link will be retired as soon as it is successfully used to create a valid password.  If unused, the link will expire after 6 months.

Password requirements:

  • Must be at least 12 characters long (blank spaces also count)

  • Must include at least 3 types of characters (uppercase, lowercase, numbers, or punctuation)

Additional restrictions for Student/Faculty/Staff passwords:

  • Cannot have the same character 3 times in a row

  • Cannot have 3 or more sequential characters in a row  (e.g., abc, cba, 123, 321)

  • Cannot contain 3-letter portions of your name (e.g., Mike's password cannot have "mik" or "ike")

Step 3: Sign In and Choose Your Security Factor(s)

Successfully submitting a valid password should automatically redirect to the OneLogin sign-in page, or you may head to login.pointloma.edu at any time.

  • Enter the username (found in the email from Step 1) and click Continue

  • Enter the password you created from Step 2 and click Continue

  • Follow the on-screen prompts to choose and configure a security factor

  • For students and employees, we recommend the OneLogin Protect mobile app

  • For parents, 3rd parties, and alumni, we recommend OneLogin SMS (text codes)

  • After setup is complete, click Skip whenever you see "Add OneLogin to your browser"

You're Now Logged In

Once you see a white screen with the Point Loma logo and tiles or links to other web sites used by PLNU, you are in!  You may click on these icons to get to commonly used sites such as Workday, PLNU Gmail, and myPLNU.

Notes About Timing/Synchronization of Permissions

The instructions above should work as soon as the invitation email is generated, but please note that each different web site that utilizes your OneLogin credentials (Workday, Canvas, myPLNU, etc...) are on their own synchronization schedules.  It may take a few hours or up to a day or two before your access and permissions are fully set up in those sites.  Also, some groups are purposely not granted access to some systems at all, or not until a specified date has passed.

If You Need Help

PLNU's Solution Center is a team of staff and students who are trained to help with numerous issues that include locating OneLogin invitation emails, assisting with password issues, and setting up OneLogin security factors.  We can also help troubleshoot if you are denied access to a site that you believe you need to use, and your invitation email was sent at least 2 days prior.  Most login-related issues will require a live call with the user of the account in question.  Click here for hours, email address, and phone number.
